The JS occurrence is located on a ridge east of the head waters of Askew Creek, approximately 1.6 kilometres north of Chemainus Lake.

The area is underlain by calc-alkaline volcanic rocks of the Middle to Upper Devonian Nitinat Formation (Sicker Group).

Locally, a number of zones of siliceous pyritic basalts and feldspar porphyry dikes host chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena mineralization.

In 1982, the area was prospected as the JJ and JS claims by J.W. Joyce. A sample of mineralized material assayed 0.29 per cent copper, 0.528 per cent zinc and 17.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 12048).
